• The 40 days after the falling asleep of a loved one is a special time for Orthodox Christians to come together in community to pray for their loved one as well as to renew our trust in the love of God, the Lover of all Mankind.
• Our companion, Archimandrite SchemaMonk Zossimma fell asleep on Aug. 17. The 40-day memorial Panikhida service is being held Saturday, Sept. 24 at 3PM in San Francisco.
• The 3PM service will be at 1300 Polk St. (Corner of Bush St.) This is the first floor chapel of the First Congregational Church of San Francisco.
• If you have sung in a choir, please consider chanting with us by arriving at the chapel at 2PM.
• It is difficult to deny that these are days of spiritual alienation and emotional isolation from so-called Christian communities who think that everyone who is not heterosexual must bear their cross by discarding their same-sex partners for life otherwise they must not participate in the Sacred Mysteries and fellowship of the Orthodox community.
• As I knew Father Zossimma (Dismus Corde), he was an openly gay man of 78, an honest and transparent Orthodox Christian who lived a very prayerful and dedicated life as a hermit, iconographer, and as spiritual father to many in the very midst of San Francisco. I would be surprised if anyone reading this who spent considerable time in downtown San Francisco would have failed to see Father Zossimma at one time or another in his monastic garments.
